Fancy tonic

So here we are, a day into October and with an unexpected heatwave across the nation. Unfortunately it had to come to an end today for Scotland, but its set to push 30° down in London on Sunday. This is quite a roundabout post, other than the fact the warm weather made get out of the office for a few hours on Thursday to shoot some test images for our soon to be released sample issue magazine at White Light Media.

Unfortunately I can't really talk about it, embargo until the printed copies come back. But the topic is alcohol, gin specifically, so in this mini feature we're looking at some accompaniments in the form of tonic.

I love a Gin & Tonic, love it. So even the thought of our very professional (lol) tonic tasting session was enough to motivate me to try some photos out this week. Obviously these images probably have a thousand flaws noticeable by a decent photographer, but it wasn't exactly easy with such mismatching bottles. Some green, clear, plastic in there too for laughs, not exactly a matching set.

They probably just need some Photoshop work, but I'm quite into these being low-fi. The drinks industry (especially in Whisky Land) is obsessed with images so highly polished they might as well be digitally rendered, so I was keen to do exactly not that. I must admit, the work of David Loftus (think every Jamie Oliver book and Jamie Magazine) always inspires me. His food work looks so casually delicious, sometimes not even employing a food stylist. I'm not even sure he uses strobes, everything just look so naturally lit.

Check back soon for an update on Hot Rum Cow magazine.
